In the Spring of 2005 I attended the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles. It is a 9 week, 500+ hour course that includes 2 classes a day, seminars, lectures, anatomy classes and posture clinics designed to prepare you to teach the Bikram Method of Hot Yoga.

Once I was out of training I realized there was still so much more to learn! So, for the next 8 years I began to travel to teach and learn as much as possible.

I have traveled extensively through the New England area teaching at studios in MA, CT, RI and NH.  Also, I have taught locally in Sarasota as well as a 6 month stint in Hong Kong.  Throughout this time I have been fortunate enough to spend time learning from some excellent Senior Teachers and to continue my education attending seminars on a regular basis.

I am also available for Private Lessons at the studio.  Please email me at:  if you would like more information.

Don’t be scared!  YOU are worth it!

I took my first Bikram class more than 12 years ago. Before my first week was up I had purchased an annual membership. I was convinced there was something to this….david-locust-pose

I have a history of back pain that had required several visits to the ER over the years. Since I began practicing Bikram Yoga I have not been back!

Running my own business for 20 years and raising a teenaged daughter alone had me pretty stressed out. I was in the army for nearly 10 years and I can promise you that this is one of the toughest workouts I’ve ever had- both physically and mentally. The intensity of the workout you get in class fooled me in the beginning. I thought I could “beat it”. Once I figured out you can’t beat it and began to concentrate on doing what I could do correctly I found the meditation helped to relieve my stress and tension. The 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises work your entire body- Strengthening weak areas, creating flexibility in tight areas and building endurance.

In January 2012 we moved to Southwest FL to open a car wash with the idea we would eventually open a yoga studio as well. In February 2014 that idea became a reality!

In the summer of 2014 I attended Hot Yoga teacher training in Tampa at the Evolation Studio.

SUDI VAN DIEN – WARM Pilates Instructor

The journey on my mat began in earnest at the Sri Naranda Yoga Center teacher training in 1991 in Hallandale, FL.   After years of teaching , studying and practicing, I completed the 200 hour Sivananda Yoga teacher training in 2003 in Northern California.   Adding Pilates training   into my repertoire in 2010 , I found these two forms of exercise to be extremely beneficial to each other and am excited to practice and teach them both.

I found GCY in July of 2015 and have been hooked on Hot Yoga ever since. The sequence of postures, combined with the heat, has deepened my yoga practice and benefitted me tremendously by healing a previously chronic neck issue, and by increasing my flexibility.   The Pilates classes, taught in a gently warm room (about 90 degrees), are a wonderful compliment to the Hot Yoga classes at GCY.

JEANNE BOUDREAU – WARM Yin and WARM Pilates Instructor

I’ve been an avid fitness enthusiast for over 30 years, but had never tried yoga until November 2014. I stepped into GCY, took my first Hot Yoga class, and realized that I had finally discovered a way to exercise that would be perfect for my body and my mind. The benefits to Hot Yoga are astounding!

I have been a Registered Nurse since 2004, have worked in Oncology and infusion therapy since 2005, and have worked 40-60 hour work weeks since 2007. The demands of my job can be personally and physically challenging, but since finding yoga, I have found the demands so much more manageable.

I became interested in Yin Yoga in December 2016, after taking a class with Ida Ripley. I attended a 40-hour Yin Teacher Training in January 2017. I also became certified to teach Pilates in February 2017.  I began teaching Yin Yoga at GCY in March and I truly enjoy teaching students to safely and effectively stretch and awaken muscles they sometimes use too often or have forgotten they even have. I also teach Pilates whenever I am needed.

 Heather Miller- HOT Yoga Instructor

Hi, My name is Heather Miller and my journey began with yoga in 2002 while I was training for my first marathon. I found that having a yoga practice has helped my running immensely and it has allowed me to breathe better. When I discovered Bikram yoga in 2011, I was hooked. Something in Bikram Yoga spoke to me—calmed the mind. In the fall of 2014 I went to teacher training in Thailand for nine weeks and afterwards I started teaching in Anchorage, Alaska. I have since completed a 200 hour training in Hatha Yoga and the Next Level 90 intermediate training. I have learned as much about healing the body from the students as I have in training. I moved to Cape Coral, Florida in August 2015 and discovered there is not a local hot yoga studio. I am very grateful to have found Gulf Coast Yoga a place to practice and teach and be a part of your beautiful community.

Mary Riley-  WARM Yin Instructor

While training for marathons, I walked back into a yoga studio realizing how I needed yoga once again. I had moved from hibernating in icy Wisconsin to running and being outdoors in fabulous Florida. As an avid yoga student in WI since 1985, studying with various teachers in Milwaukee and Chicago,  the time-consuming marathon training kept me from yoga classes here.

After a few years of marathons, my body, mind and soul craved yoga. That was 2006 and I have been teaching in FL since, studying with international instructor Sonia Sumar, and at the Amrit Yoga Institute. Not once have I ever thought “I don’t want to teach yoga today.” It is the delight of my life to bring the gifts of yoga to you.

HOT Yoga is therapeutic, because it brought my knee back from immobility to complete normalcy, even after my physical therapist said to me “Your knee will never come back to the way it was.”

WARM Yin Yoga is not to be missed! It is an amazing compliment to hot yoga or any physical activity (or inactivity) you are doing. Yoga will bring you to the sense of inner calm that is within you. Let yoga help you uncover it.  Breathe, relax, and connect.

MARGIE TOPF-  visiting teacher

I love practicing and teaching Bikram yoga. I am deeply committed to sharing my passion for this yoga, which has healed me on physical, emotional and spiritual levels very deeply. After becoming certified as a Bikram Yoga Teacher, I traveled extensively to gain teaching experience and to deepen my own practice. My background includes dancer, educator, choreographer, and founder of the MJT Dance Company. I began practicing Bikram yoga in 2001 as the start of a new mid-life journey and graduated Teacher Training in Los Angeles, California in January, 2004. The teacher training experience was the most difficult and amazing period in my life, and I will always be grateful for this life-changing opportunity. I enjoy teaching and I bring my passion for movement and body awareness into each class experience.
